New UK Visa Rules Introduced: Higher Financial Proof and Post-Study Work Changes

The UK government has announced key updates to its visa policies, increasing the maintenance fund requirements for international students and adjusting the duration of the Graduate Route visa. These changes will take effect in November 2025 and January 2027, respectively.

1. Increased Maintenance Fund Requirements – Effective 11 November 2025

From 11 November 2025, students applying under the Student Route must show higher financial proof to meet immigration requirements.

  • For London: £1,529 per month (up to 9 months)

  • Outside London: £1,171 per month (up to 9 months)

Additionally, the accommodation offset has been increased to £1,529, offering updated support calculations under the new rule.

2. Graduate Route Duration Changes – Effective 1 January 2027

Starting 1 January 2027, the duration of the Graduate Route visa will be shortened for some graduates:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates: 18 months (previously 2 years)
  • PhD/Doctoral graduates: 3 years (no change)

These policy changes aim to align the UK’s post-study work and immigration framework with evolving educational and economic objectives. Students planning to study in the UK are advised to review these new financial and visa requirements before applying.
